Israel's 15th Hanukka Coin


Issued by the Bank of Israel to commemorate the Hanukka Festival. The coin displays a 19th century Lamp from Corfu, Greece.


Description of the Coin

Front

A Greek Lamp with the Hebrew inscription, "A Hanukka Lamp from Corfu, 19th Century". The Proof coin is struck with a small Hebrew 'mem' at the bottom. The uncirculated coin is struck with a six pointed star.

Reverse

The inscription in Hebrew "1 Sheqel". The word "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The date "5741-1980" in Hebrew and English. The State Emblem is at the bottom.

Uncirculated: A Mint State coin struck on a standard planchet. It will display a matte type appearance. A small six pointed "Star of David" mintmark struck on the "Greek Lamp" coin at the bottom.

Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark is struck on the "Greek Lamp" coin at the bottom.
