Commemorative Coin in honor of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. 203 countries from 5 continents participated in the preliminary rounds to secure a place in the Finals held in June 2006 in Germany. The slogan for the competition, "A time to make friends" and the World Cup Organizing Committee led this celebration in the heart of Europe.
Soccer has been popular in Israel for close to 100 years and in 1929 the National Federation was accepted as a member of FIFA. The Israel National Team has participated in international activities since 1934 and regularly takes part in FIFA World Cup matches.

Coin Description
Front
A Soccer ball in the field with a world map in the background. The inscription, "FIFA World Cup Germany."
Reverse
A Soccer ball active in the air with the denomination, "1, 2 or 5". The year of issue "5764/2004" and the word "Israel" in Hebrew, English and Arabic. The State Emblem at the top. "New Sheqel" or "New Sheqalim" at the rim. The Proof coins mintmarked with a Hebrew 'mem' below the denomination. The Proof-like coins with a six pointed 'Star of David'.

Each coin is encapsulated and housed in a custom display case from the Bank of Israel
Proof-Like: A Mint State coin struck on a standard quality planchet. The coin displays a mirror type finish, but of lesser degree than a full Proof strike. A small six pointed "Star of David" mintmark struck on the "Soccer" coin below the date.
Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark is struck on the "Soccer" coin below the date.
