The Second coin in the Hanukka Commemorative series
Issued by the Bank of Israel to commemorate the Hanukka Festival and the 50th Anniversary of Degania. Anti-semitism in Eastern Europe generated a wave of Immigration to the Holyland. Most were young inspired by socialist ideals spawning the rural settlement co-operative. The first "national farm" Kibbutz Degania was established in 1909. These were the pioneers that moved the Jewish community on its course toward an independent state.

The Proof coin is struck with a small Hebrew 'mem' between the 2 Cypress trees. Reverse The denomination "1 Israeli Lira," in Hebrew. The date "5720-1960" in Hebrew and English and "Israel" in Hebrew and Arabic.
