Issued by the Bank of Israel. The coin displays a nineteenth century Hanukka lamp from Tunisia.


Description of the Coin

Front

A Hanukka Lamp from Tunisia. It is inscribed in Hebrew, "Hanukkiya from Tunisia, 19th century".

Reverse

The inscription in Hebrew "1 Sheqel" or "2 Sheqalim". The word "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The date "5749-1988" in Hebrew and English. The State Emblem is at the top. The Proof coin is struck with a small Hebrew 'mem' at the bottom. The uncirculated coin is struck with a six pointed star.

Uncirculated: A Mint State coin struck on a standard planchet. It will display a matte type appearance. A small six pointed "Star of David" mintmark struck on the "Tunisian Lamp" coin at the bottom.

Proof: A coin which was made with special care. The coins are struck with extra pressure using polished dies. The planchets are specially selected and polished. The coins exhibit a mirror-like surface in the fields and a frosted appearance on the raised points of the coin. A small Hebrew 'mem' mintmark is struck on the "Tunisian Lamp" coin at the bottom.
