"ABRAHAM AND THE ANGELS"
Israel's "Biblical Art" Coin Series
2006/5766
The 11th Coin in the "Biblical Art" Series
Abraham was sitting by his tent in Mamre in the desert heat. Sarah, his wife, in her admirable modest manner was inside, when three men appeared. Abraham got up immediately to prepare hospitality for the wayfarers. At first, he did not know that these were angels disguised as men, who were to announce that Sarah was to have a child through whom Abraham would become the father of a great nation. Since Sarah was 89 with no children and Abraham was 99, this news was unbelievable. Miraculously, this came true and Sarah later gave birth to Isaac.
