The New Rochelle, New York Half Dollar
1838 - 1938
In 1688 a small group of Huguenot refugees from la Rochelle, France, purchased a tract of 6,000 acres of land from Lord John Pell. The contract provided that a 'fattened calf' be delivered every year on June 20th.
The community of New Rochelle grew and in the year 1899 incorporated as a City.
