This set of coins was issued by the Bank of Israel to honor David Ben Gurion. (1886-1973)
Ben-Gurion was born David Green in Plonsk, Russia. He settled in Palestine in 1906. A Zionist leader, the founder of the Israel Workers' Party (Mapai), the Secretary-General of the General Federation of Labor (Histadrut), and Israel's first Prime Minister. On Friday May 14, 1948 at 4:00 PM in Tel Aviv, David Ben Gurion proclaimed the establishment of the Jewish State, to be called "Israel".
Description of the Coin Front A bust of Ben-Gurion appears in the center of the coin. Below, the emblem of the State of Israel, and the inscription, "David Ben-Gurion" and "1886-1973" in English and Hebrew. Reverse The State emblem appears in the center of the coin. Around the rim, the denomination, "500" or "25" Lirot in Hebrew. "Israel" in English and Arabic, with the date, "1974" and "5734" in Hebrew below the emblem. The Proof coin mintmarked with a Hebrew 'mem". The Uncirculated coin with a six pointed star.
