"Year of Valour" 1983/5743
Israel's 35th Anniversary of Independence Coin "Valour" Commemorative coin issued by the Bank of Israel in honor of Israel's Defense Forces. The I.D.F. was established on May 28, 1948 by ordinance signed by David Ben Gurion, Prime Minister. It is the army of the Israeli nation, and as such the guarantor of the existence, the territorial integrity and the sovereign rights of the State of Israel. It is a true and stable support, a source of strength and of pride for Israel's citizens and the Jewish people throughout the world.
Description of the Coin Front A sculptured Jewish star with the word "Zahal" at the bottom. The IDF emblem, a sword and olive branch within a "Star of David", in the center. Reverse The denomination of "1, 2 or 10" and the word "Sheqel" or "Sheqalim", in Hebrew and English. The State Emblem. "Israel" in Hebrew, English and Arabic and the date 1983/5743. The uncirculated silver coin is mintmarked with a 6 pointed star at the bottom. The proof coins are mintmarked with a Hebrew 'mem' at the bottom.
Actual gold weight: 1/2 oz. - encapsulated and housed in a custom display case from the Bank of Israel.
