Since the founding of the State of Israel, reserve soldiers have been an essential part of the strength and power of the Israel Defense Forces.
Reserve soldiers must be prepared to report for service immediately in times of crisis.
The units have participated in all of Israel's wars since 1948. When "called up", reserve soldiers, both men and women, serve alongside regular army, contributing to the defense and security of the nation.
The coin salutes the role of reserve soldiers in guaranteeing the security of the State of Israel and recognizes the special sacrifices of the soldiers and their families. The design of the coin, including a child's teddy bear pendant against the background of a soldier's ID tag, reflects the dual nature of reserve duty, commitment to family and commitment to country.
We continue to pray and aspire to the Age of Peace, when the world will know no more war and to the time when we will no longer have to call to Reserve duty.
